Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)

Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) is a program designed to enhance the development of the nervous system in puppies. It involves exposing puppies to various stimuli at a young age to help them develop into well-adjusted, confident, and mentally balanced adult dogs.

ENS is typically performed between the ages of 3 and 16 days, which is a critical period in a puppy's development. During this time, puppies are more receptive to new experiences and are more likely to remember them. The program involves exposing puppies to five different stimuli, one each day, in a controlled and consistent manner. These stimuli include:

  1. Tactical stimulation: lightly pressing on various parts of the puppy's body

  2. Head up: holding the puppy so its head is higher than its body

  3. Head down: holding the puppy so its head is lower than its body

  4. Supine position: placing the puppy on its back

  5. Thermal stimulation: using a cool or warm surface to stimulate the puppy's paws

The goal of ENS is to help puppies develop into confident and well-adjusted adult dogs that are able to handle new experiences and handle stress more effectively. It is important to note that ENS is just one aspect of a comprehensive puppy socialization and training program, and should be combined with other forms of socialization, training, and positive reinforcement.
